Personal recommendation
A very good book for anyone who still has not worked out what capitalism actually is. It let me see a lot of things from a different angle. Especially worth it if you are willing to question your own assumptions.
What the book is about
Zitelmann goes country by country, from Chile to China to Sweden, and holds the economic record against the reputation each system has.
What to expect
Written with AI and checked by me. The score and the personal recommendation above are mine.
Zitelmann goes country by country and holds the economic record against the reputation each system carries.
- Chile, China, Poland, Sweden, Venezuela, Germany after the war and the two Koreas each get a chapter.
- The pattern he is after is what happened to living standards when a country opened its economy, and when it closed it.
- Sweden gets particular attention because it is usually cited against his position.
- He also covers what he thinks people misunderstand about the Swedish and German models.
- Declared advocacy again, with the data laid out so you can check the steps.
Reads as a companion to his book on the ten objections. Same method, more history.
