Personal recommendation
Honestly, this did little for me. I usually like listening to Poschardt, but the book did not get hold of me. Others may well get more out of it.
What the book is about
Poschardt’s polemic against a middle class he sees as comfortable and moralising, with its values, its media and its politics in the line of fire.
What to expect
Written with AI and checked by me. The score and the personal recommendation above are mine.
Poschardt's polemic against a German middle class he sees as comfortable, moralising and unwilling to take risks.
- His targets are its politics, its media, its taste and what he calls its habit of confusing virtue with opinion.
- He writes from a liberal position and treats the loss of appetite for risk as the central problem.
- Culture, cars and lifestyle come up repeatedly, because for him they are where the attitude shows.
- It is a pamphlet rather than an analysis, and the argument moves by assertion.
- If you have heard him speak, the book sounds exactly like that.
Short and loud. You will probably know within twenty pages whether you want the rest.
