Personal recommendation
Because of this I got up early for a year, and I liked it. In the end it turned out I am a night person and work better late, but the book gave me a real push anyway. It gets you moving even if you end up doing it your own way.
What the book is about
A fixed morning routine of six blocks, among them silence, movement and reading, done before the day starts making demands. Elrod’s claim is that the first hour sets the rest.
What to expect
Written with AI and checked by me. The score and the personal recommendation above are mine.
Elrod builds the book around one hour before the rest of the day starts, split into six activities.
- Silence, affirmations, visualisation, exercise, reading and writing, in that order, ten minutes each.
- The argument is that the order and the consistency matter more than the length, and there is a six minute version.
- A large part is about getting out of bed, including putting the alarm across the room and deciding the night before.
- Elrod's own story, a car crash he was not expected to survive, frames the whole thing.
- The affirmations chapter is the weakest and leans on claims the book does not support.
Very simple and heavily repeated. Whether it does anything depends entirely on whether you run it.
